Nucella lima can be found from Alaska (USA) to Baja California (MEX).

Habitat
N. lima, File Dog Winkle, can be found in the high to mid intertidal zones on rocky substrate. This species eats Littorina sp. so they are often found in close association.

Morphology and Identification
Nucella lima is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Muricidae, the murex snails or rock snails. This species usually has a thin shell and can grow to 50 mm. The shell is white to orange or brown in color and has 17 to 20 spiral ridges as well as a well-developed siphonal canal. The whorls on the shell do not have sutures and there are no axial ridges.
