This new contract will ensure the transport of goods by inland waterway by allowing the Port of Brussels to continue the maintenance of the port facilities (15 million EUR), to invest in the canal and its surroundings, including the building of new quay walls (15 million EUR), and to investigate the possibility of compulsory use of waterways for the construction sites within the port area. The port of area will also be extended by 20 hectares thanks to this funding.

The additional points listed in the contract state that the Port of Brussels will focus its attention to environmentally-friendly companies and will develop a complete logistics offer for the construction sector. In addition, the Port will make sure that its projects are well integrated into the landscape. The Brussels Region will contribute to that objective by creating a new parc, a sports infrastructure, a regional nautical hub and a cycle path in the port area.

Through this new management contract, the Port and the Region are demonstrating their willingness to fight climate change and promote biodiversity in Brussels.
