Jean-Paul Philippot is the CEO of the Belgian national broadcaster, RTBF, and President of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union, the largest broadcasting union in the world and member of the WBU). After having started his career as a business consultant and advisor for the government, he then became a manager in the public sector. Since 2002 he is active in the broadcasting world, where he administrates the RTBF and the RMB (Régie Media Belge). In his role as CEO of the RTBF he has already accomplished three restructuring and renovation plans (2002, 2007 and 2011). He was elected President of the EBU in 2009 and is currently serving his second term. He was appointed member of the IGF Advisory Group in 2010, on behalf of the World Broadcasting Union, and has attended IGF 2010 in Vilnius and IGF 2011 in Nairobi as a speaker, representing media constituency in the opening ceremonies. Under his leadership the EBU has begun the transformation from a broadcasting union to a media union, in order to reflect the deep ongoing transformation of radio and television channels worldwide to media services. Among the EBU's Members there is the BBC, France Télévisions, ARD, ZDF, RAI and many others (85 broadcasting organisations in over 56 countries). The ABU (Asia- Pacific Broadcasting Union) has among its members CCTV, KBS, NHK and Doordashan. Other members of the WBU are NABA, CBU, AUB, ASBU, AIB-IAR and OTI. The WBU DGs gather once a year on the fringe of the EBU summer General Assembly and has given the mandate to the EBU of representing it in the IGF bodies.
