REEL is a national initiative where leading Swedish actors have joined forces to accelerate the transition to electrified, emission-free heavy transport on our roads. Within the venture, we establish, run and evaluate around 70 different regional logistics flows in varying types of driving assignments. REEL brings together transport buyers, forwarders and distributors, haulage companies, terminal operators, charging point operators, electricity grid companies and suppliers of trucks, charging equipment and management systems. In addition, regions, national authorities and universities participate in this initiative. REEL receives co-financing from the programme Fordonsstrategisk forskning och innovation (FFI) through Vinnova,  Swedish Energy Agency and Trafikverket.

We are pleased to announce that INTERORG has been awarded a KK-stiftelsen HÖG project named "Circular Electrification Solutions for Decarbonized Freight Transport"! 🥂 👩🏫 🚚 In this #project, we aim to contribute to solving issues of the Swedish freight transport sector, such as substantial negative environmental impacts, namely CO2 emissions and noise pollution. While electrification is a viable solution, it currently poses business, technological, and systemic challenges for hauliers, slowing down the adoption of electric trucks despite their environmental benefits. The project investigates the potential of #circular Charging Ecosystems (CCEs), a multi-system interface solution coupling energy hubs that include photovoltaics, second-life battery storage, and autonomous static charging platforms, to enable rapid and cost-efficient electrification, even in the face of grid bottlenecks. Over the course of three years (2023-2026), the INTERORG research group, represented by Vojtěch Klézl, Sophie-Marie Ertelt, Zeinab Rezvani, Per Carlborg and Johan Kask, together with a set of innovative companies (Närkefrakt, REARQ) and Region Örebro län will examine the financial viability, regulatory and technical requirements, operability, as well as impacts on freight hauliers' daily operations of such CCEs. The ultimate goal of the project is to eliminate uncertainties of hauliers and bridge knowledge gaps that have impeded the transition to electric vehicles, paving the way for a greener, #sustainable future in the #freight #transport industry.

I'm excited to share my experience visiting #ITTHub today, one of the leading events based in the UK in the world of transportation technology. I was again fascinated to see a wider range of solutions showcased at the event with hermetic compressors, thanks to #electrification, even though we still have "conventional" components living in this new world of transport technologies. In addition, it was really nice to have another opportunity to catch up with some of the most forward-thinking minds in the industry.   In particular, it is really good to see that the industry is progressing clearly toward electrification at a #healthy pace. It is indeed one of the two major challenging tasks addressed to transport technologies in order to lower carbon emissions (the other one is related to refrigerants chosen in these TRU/ACUs). It was inspiring to experience how many major OEMs in the European market were showcasing their trailer TRUs without gen-sets, which is a big step towards getting rid of diesel generator sets and reducing emissions. This is indeed a promising development for the future of sustainable transportation. (Carrier Transicold Truck Trailer Refrigeration, Thermo King Europe, Schmitz Cargobull AG, Daikin Transport Refrigeration, Sunswap) However, there was/is still some uncertainty in the air (pun intended) when it comes to refrigerant choices for the next-gen eTRUs. It seems like everyone is waiting for that one refrigerant to rule them all for the future, but it is never easy for any candidate (#naturals, #lowerGWPA2L, and #highpressurerefrigerants under the focus of #REACH, #FGas, #efficiencytargets, and #safetyconcerns). Lots of pros and cons to keep in mind while having the most sustainable & reliable selection! Thanks to dear Norman Highnam MInstR, Evren Akçora, and Henning Altebäumer for the detailed conversations.   One another small thing that surprised me, though, was how some of the OEMs are making use of the empty space left by removing the diesel gen-set. As I walked around the expo, I noticed that one particular eTRU had placed its battery system in that empty space. This is an effective move that maximizes the use of the eTRU's chassis and allows for a more "efficient" eTRU design with its own batteries in the chassis, which can be recharged via various ways invented: axel generators, solar panels, or maybe directly connected to the EV.   All in all, my visit to ITT Hub 2023 was a great experience that showcased the industry's commitment to #electrification and #sustainable transportation which will allow us to reach our lowering carbon emission targets! While there are still some uncertainties to be resolved, it's inspiring to see how the TRU OEMs are adapting to create more efficient and eco-friendly eTRUs. I was/am/will always be excited to see what the future holds for the industry, and I am proudly part of this change with my scroll and semi-hermetic compressor and related power-electronics products from #Copeland.
