In 2020, tele-abortion services saw a significant rise under Medicare, especially in remote areas. However, abortion rates in rural areas remain low due to limited practitioners, cultural influences, and logistical challenges (Noonan, Black, Luscombe and Tomnay, 2023). As a sexual and reproductive health organisation, we're committed to overcoming these barriers. Our Outreach Clinic program and partnership with CheckUP Australia aim to bring necessary care to rural and remote areas. Last year, our dedicated clinicians travelled over 65,000 km to bring healthcare to those in need. Ochsner Health, community leaders, organizations and partners across the state are committed to making Louisiana a healthier place to live. The solution doesn’t reside inside our clinics, hospitals or doctor offices – it goes beyond the walls of healthcare and requires each of us to do our part to accomplish this united goal. A Healthy State priority is sexual and reproductive health, focusing on three important measures: teen births, low birth weights and high chlamydia rates. This Healthy State initiative aims to increase access to screenings and treatments to positively impact these indicators and help babies and moms become and stay healthy. Annual targets through 2030 include: -Reduce teen pregnancy rates from 25.7 to 17.4. -Decrease the number of new cases of chlamydia per 100,000 population year over year, from 709.8 to 539.9. -Decrease the percentage of babies born at low birth weights from 10.9% to 8.3%. Some good news for Boston, which will soon join only a few other cities to offer doula services for expecting parents. This is huge news, in particular, for black mothers and babies facing mortality rates over twice as high as white mothers and babies---a function of both environmental factors and racism. Boston's community-based perinatal health project will connect pregnant parents to doulas and train and certify 25 new doulas from underserved communities--with 50 new doulas to be trained every year. "The need for equitable and culturally competent reproductive health care is high nationwide, health experts say. Maternal mortality rates more than doubled between 1999 and 2019, especially among Black and indigenous parents....Pregnant parents who are Black, Latino and Indigenous face a higher risk of preeclampsia, diabetes, blood clots and other conditions." Government-funded doula services are very rare. Unlike Boston, New York and Philadelphia doula services are available only to women who meet income eligibility and other requirements. #healthcare
