Status:

Found solitary, scattered or in groups on wet ground in mixed forests.

Description:

Cap: Small, reddish-brown fading to dull pink in age; convex with umbo (slightly depressed in age); smooth. Latex white or watery-white (does not stain). Usually aromatic likened to odor of maple sugar. Gills: Whitish/pale pink, decurrent, close. Stalk: Colored like cap, smooth or with white hairs at base (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Latex becomes whey-like and is not staining. Its fragrant odor (compared to maple sugar) becomes more conspicuous upon drying. (L. Biechele, pers. comm.)
