LtGen Jean-Marie Jockin

Lieutenant General Jean-Marie JOCKIN was born in LANAYE in 1949.

After attending the Royal Military School as student of the 107th “All Branches” Promotion, he joins the 2nd Cycle Riflemen Battalion where he successively exercises the duties of Armoured Infantry Platoon Commander, Reconnaissance Platoon Commander and Company Second in Command.

From 1975 to 1978 Lieutenant JOCKIN takes up the command of the support company next of the B company. In 1977 he attends the course for captains at the Infantry School in MONTPELLIER. In 1978 he is assigned to the Infantry School in ARLON where he is in charge of the training of the second lieutenants. In 1981 he is student at the Infantry Officer Advanced Course in FORT BENNING (United States of America). Next he returns to the Infantry School at the Study Office.

In 1983 at the end of the Senior Officers’Training Course, Captain JOCKIN is assigned to the 17th Armoured Brigade Staff where he successively exercises the duties of deputy operations officer, intelligence officer and operations officer.

In 1988 Major JOCKIN takes the Staff College Certificate with the 102nd Division at the Royal Defence College. For almost two years he has been exercising the duties of G3 operations at the Forces of the Interior Staff. Major JOCKIN takes up the command of the 2nd Cycle Riflemen Battalion from May 1990 to November 1992. He is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 26 September 1990. In March 1992 Lieutenant Colonel JOCKIN takes up the command of the 1st Belgo-Luxembourg Battalion deployed in the former Yugoslavia within the framework of the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR).

In December 1992 he joins the Royal Defence College where he becomes teacher at the Army Division. He is promoted to the rank of Colonel in December 1994.

In September 1995 he is assigned to the Royal Military School where he is Director for the Military and Sports Training. On 23 February 1996 he temporarily leaves the Royal Military School to exercise the duties of UNTAES Chief of Staff ( United Nations Transitional Administration of Eastern Slavonia) in CROATIA during the initial phase of this mission. On 15 January 1997 he is appointed Aide to the King.

In November 1997 he joins the Army Operational Command where he exercises the duty of Chief of Staff.

On 25 March 1999 he takes up the command of the 7th Mechanised Brigade.

On 26 March 2000 he is appointed Major General and is assigned to the duty of Deputy
General of the Interservice Territorial Command.

On 26 December 2001 he is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

In January 2002 he becomes Vice-Chief of Defence. He is subsequently assigned as the Belgian Representative to the Military Committee in January 2007.

Lieutenant General JOCKIN is married to Betty and father of three children. He lives in HAMOIS.
