Celypha striana

Wingspan 16-22 mm. Distinguished from other Celypha sp. by the strongly developed median fascia in the forewing.

It inhabits open grassy areas.

Flies from dusk between June and August, being attracted to light.

The larvae feed on Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), boring into the roots.

A fairly common species in the south of Britain, becoming scarcer further north. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
