Hydrothassa marginella
A very distinctive beetle, mainly black but with orange margins on the elytra and pronotum. The dark centre of the pronotum narrows as it reaches the base.
H. hannoveriana is similar but rare. In this species the black central band on the pronotum widens towards the base.
Meadows and verges where flowers of the Buttercup family are found.
Larva feed on various members of the Buttercup family.
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout the whole of England and Wales, but fewer records from Scotland.
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 69 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
