Piniphila bifasciana
Wingspan 12 to 16 mm.
Around Scots Pine.
The normal flight time for the adults is from dusk onwards, when it is attracted to light. They are on the wing in June and July.
The larvae feed in a silken gallery among the young shoots and male flowers of Scots Pine. Maritime pine is also a foodplant.
This species is found locally mainly in the southern half of Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.
It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
