Division I Championships

D1 Championships

Division I hosts 26 NCAA championships — 13 in men’s sports and 13 in women’s sports — that annually give the thousands of student-athletes who participate in them the experience of a lifetime. Each championship is run by a committee of coaches and administrators from NCAA member schools who are experts in their sport.

In football, schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision can compete in bowl games. This includes the College Football Playoff, which is managed by the 10 FBS conferences and Notre Dame, outside the NCAA governance structure. Those that participate in the NCAA-run football championship belong to the Football Championship Subdivision.

In all other Division I sports, schools compete in NCAA-run championships.

At championship events, Division I athletes are celebrated on television and digital networks. Through the NCAA’s partnerships with Turner/CBS, ESPN and others, all Division I championships are either broadcast nationally or streamed live.
