Catherine Marie Geernaert

Catherine Marie Geernaert (Brandy) was born in Paris, France on December 19, 1958 to Walter and Catherine Brandenburg of Lockport, NY. She had six brothers (Chucky, Walter, Braden, Bobby, Rich, and Jimmy) and one half-brother. She came into the world on the prayers of her mother, who after a long line of boys asked God to please send her “an angel with a golden curl” and her prayers were definitely answered.

Catherine grew up in Sebastopol, CA, attended Analy High School, and eventually married her 5th grade crush, David Geernaert. She raised her daughters in Vacaville and finally settled in Petaluma. Though she lost touch with many friends over the years, she always kept them alive in her heart and in the stories that she would tell to her girls.

Catherine was a self-taught expert on a wide range of topics from philosophy to finance. She was always seeking knowledge and loved trying to unravel the secrets of the universe. She had a passion for art and making things beautiful. She loved swimming, dancing, the ocean, stormy weather, the changing seasons (especially Fall), rainbows, magic, and moonlight.

Catherine was loving, caring, and a genuinely good person with a real mischievous streak and a razor sharp wit. She saw it as her personal mission to spread happiness, beauty, and laughter to everyone she met. She was 5’2’’, with the clearest crystal blue eyes, and long blonde and silver hair. She was a magical person that if you were lucky enough to have truly known, you should consider yourself among a very blessed few.

Catherine loved her family and believed life was precious; she didn’t want to leave and she fought until the end to stay here with us. She passed away on January 14, 2023 in San Rafael, CA. She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Cassandra and Samantha, and her two brothers Walter and Richard.

Friends and family are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, 430 Magnolia Avenue, Petaluma CA. For anyone who would like to say their goodbyes and pay their respects, a visitation will be held the day before on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA.
