Denis Guy Leonard

Denis Guy Leonard, a resident of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2023 at the age of 90.

He lived in the Jamestown and Kennedy, NY area his first 41 years and had many fond memories and fun stories to tell. He was born on January 28, 1933 to Arnold and Astrid (Anderson) Leonard. His sister, Cynthia, passed away in 2006. His brother, Gary, lives in Lakewood, NY.

In 1952, after graduating from Falconer High School, he married Joan Thompson. They were married for 71 years. During the Korean conflict, he served 2 years in the Navy where he taught instrument flying to Navy pilots. On his return home, Deny worked at Marlin Rockwell and later at Crescent Tool. He retained many friends from that time.

He and Joan had three children, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Deny is survived by his wife, Joan, as well as their children, Scott and wife Becky, Shellie, and Robert and wife Robin.

Deny continued his career in the tool industry, working for Western Forge in Colorado and American Tool in Nebraska. His work involved extensive international travel. He and Joan also owned a travel agency for eight years, enjoying a number of trips to Europe and Southeast Asia. In 1997, they moved to Rapid City, SD.

Aside from his family, Deny’s joy in life was the outdoors – fishing, hunting, trapping in his childhood, boating or just walking in the woods. He also enjoyed woodworking, and he loved his tools.

Deny lived a good life and left us with many happy memories.
