I had a CV review sometimes back. I sent the Coach my CV in advance. When we had the meeting I could clearly see the coach didn't bother checking the CV. The coach suggested some general tips etc and the session ended. There was no implied suggestion on any follow up. So I am looking for a coach who can offer a CV review. But before I proceed I would want to know how and the process for any coach who offer CV review services. I will not want to just pay for such services and then be disappointed as before. I will expect the coach to work with me on iterations till we are both certified with the CV. And how can I be sure that the CV is optimum so that I don't feel shortchanged as before. Thanks a lot.

Hi there,

sorry to hear about your experience. Really pity…I consider investment in coach for CV, one of the highest returns you can get, you actually learn about your strengths, abilities, impact you create, etc. it is not about the template is about understanding why and what makes the difference.

I don't know how other coaches do but my approach is:

BEFORE the session (once you booked)

  • Send me your CV for my review
  • I send back my comments, examples (don't want to do it prior, want to see where your stand) as well as recommended changes

DURING the session

  • We go specifically through your CV and comment on how you can improve it, with specific examples, tips, and responding to all the doubts

AFTER the session

  • You send me your updated CV and I yet to provide feedback

I focus not as much on the template (no worry, it will be nice as well) but most importantly on what the CV should have and why. We build the stories together, so you can understand the logic, which also serves for your cover letter and lately for your FIT interview. You will be more aware of what is your strengths, what impact you have and can generate(d), and what is your value.

You can check my coachees' reviews and reach out directly if you would like me to support you.

Lucie

#1 Coach for Sessions (4.500+) | 1.500+ 5-Star Reviews | Proven Success (➡ interviewoffers.com) | Ex BCG | 10Y+ Coaching

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your previous negative experience. The process I use is the following:

  1. You send me your CV and Cover before the class (if you don’t need help with the Cover that’s fine and we can review the CV only, although I would recommend that you still send the Cover for a check – I include its review for free with the CV)
  2. We review both of them together during the class. I recommend the changes to do step by step
  3. You work on the recommended improvements after the class and adapt the docs accordingly
  4. You send me back the CV and Cover. I review them and provide suggestions on anything needed more (no additional bookings needed)
  5. You review and change them accordingly
  6. If needed you send them back as long as needed (no follow-up limit)

All the steps are included in the initial booking, including the unlimited follow-ups.

That session is 30min at 50% of the standard rate of a full class. If you prefer, we can do a full session and also cover all the steps needed to get referrals.

If you have additional questions please feel free to PM me.

Best,

Francesco

#1 BCG coach | MBB | Tier 2 | Digital, Tech, Platinion | 100% personal success rate (8/8) | 95% candidate success rate

Hi there,

I'm so sorry that this was your experience! A CV review should be a full review. That is, the coach should be working with you to get your resume into the optimal state.

I personally have had numerous candidates tell me that the recruiter/HR told them their resume was the best they have ever seen. I promise I'll strive for the same with you!

In terms of my process:

  1. Send me the resume before our meeting: I will do a full offline review and edit anything that can be edited without discussion. You'll need to incorporate that feedback before our session
  2. We will live edit during the session: The focus here is to fully flesh out things that have to be discussed (I'll need to ask you questions to fully understand your experiences and optimize your sentences, we'll talk about what to cut and add, etc.)
  3. Final touches after the session: You'll incorporate the live session feedback and send the resume over. I'll have a final read-through and make any final edits directly as required

Empathic coach, former McKinsey Engagement Manager |Secure offers from top consulting firms

Dear Anonymous, I would be very happy to do this with you. Feel free to reach out. And in case you are considering someone else always ask them like you do what is included in the review and what is not. You can book an unlimited revisions review with me. Just note one point when it says unlimited revisions it means during a specific period, so we go and finalize the CV once together (let's say it takes 3 revisions until we are both happy with it), then we do so. Of course if in a year you want to improve it again, then this would be an extra charge.

I focus on helping you tailor it to the specific objectives you have, let's say you want to get into a particular firm, then we improve it and tweak it to that. If it is a general consulting CV then we look for something that applies broadly.

If you are interested in working together with me kindly message me and I am happy to answer any questions around the process as you need. In principle, I would do a first revision, I then need you to implement suggested changes, then I look at it again, and this repeats until we are done :) .

Hi there,

I suggest that you pick a 1-2 coaches you may want to work with, send them your CV and ask them about their suggested approach. The reason you have to send the CV beforehand is so that they can evaluate how much work it actually needs.

Then you assess if the suggested approach is aligned with what you are looking for.

ex-McKinsey EM & Interviewer | 7/8 offer rate for 4+ sessions | 90min sessions with FREE exercises & videos

Hey there, sorry to hear that someone wasn't taking their job seriously! I hope you left an appropriate review on their profile to spare other candidates this kind of agony.

A good CV & Cover Letter review typically involves the following:

  1. Send your documents to the expert along with your target company, role, and country (e.g. Associate for Operations Practice at McKinsey in Chile)
  2. Agree on a format, price, and date (for full transparency) that gives the expert time to go through your documents with a "red pen"
  3. Expert then tests your CV offline for strengths and weaknesses with regards to content, form, and format
  4. During a 30-60min session (depending on the agreement), the reviewer takes you through the CV, which will typically have many comments and suggestions for change, with a focus on providing a learning experience that allows candidates to enhance the documents themselves - this part is key and should not be general but rather highly individual
  5. Candidates implement all the changes on the back of the feedback and learning experience and resend to the expert
  6. The expert then gives it a last look and either flags any last issues or gives a green light

The above is a process for a CV that's generally in OK shape and needs to be enhanced. However, I have seen CVs that needed several iterations and heavy involvement of the interviewer. This is something that the interviewer can estimate prior to making any agreement.

Hope this helps a bit! Best of luck!

Experienced coach in digital/data/technology strategy consulting in the Middle East (Dubai/KSA) and Europe

I am really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with the coaches. In case you didn't find someone yet that could help you then I am more than happy to support you.

1. Send me the CV

2. I reply with feedback

3. You adjust the feedback + write down questions

4. We have our session where we discuss the feedback and your questions

5. You improve the CV and send it to me for final feedback

Usually, this session takes 30 minutes and costs you 50% of my hourly rate. So 69.50 euro. However, in your case, I am more than happy to give you a 1-hour session in which we can review your CV and do a short case for 69.50 euro.

You've already chosen the best answer, but I joined this community to contribute to as more people as possible. I don't want to state that I'm an expert in writing, but recently I developed an approach towards tackling these tasks. I needed to write a cover letter recently, and I used the guide I found on the Internet. It was excellent decision and I wish you check your paper using that guidelines.
