The Ardgroom stone circle is located not far from Glenbeg Lough and I visited the stone circle after the sunrise shooting at the lake. There is a small car park at the end of a narrow farmer’s road and from there it is just a short walk through a fairly boggy field to the stone circle. Luckily, I had my wellies with me!
The stone circle consists of eleven megaliths in a circle about ten meters in diameter, nine of which still stand today, while one stone lies outside the circle. According to archaeologists, the site dates back to the Neolithic period and was later used as a ritual site by the Celts. Numerous prehistoric and Celtic remains have been found here. The stones have hardly eroded over time, have retained their position and have not been restored or moved since. An interesting stone circle in the middle of a beautiful moorland landscape and the visit was definitely worth it for me.
Ireland offered me the usual bad weather for the last few days in Killarney and Cork and I was actually happy when I was finally able to take the ferry back to France and leave Ireland. The irony of fate was that at sunset there was a fantastic colorful sky from the ferry and I thought to myself one last time: Fuck Ireland!
