Karl Joseph hasn't gotten to “lay anybody out”, Raiders looking forward to it

New, comments

Pretty much daily I receive questions from fans about what I’ve seen from Karl Joseph. Rarely have I had much to say. That’s not because he’s playing poorly, but just because there isn’t a lot to say.

He has been a full participant in four camp practices and was sidelined today. The Raiders had no comment on why Joseph didn’t take the field today and Jack Del Rio was not scheduled to speak. He was seen stretching with a trainer much of practice.

It does no good to try and speculate as to why he wasn’t practicing without more information. At this point, we wait to see if was a one day thing or a bit more. Important to note the Clive Walford was also held out. Both players missed the entire offseason.

Joseph’s teammates are anxious to see what their latest top pick can do full go. No player more than Khalil Mack who always loves the contact part of the game.

"We call him strong neck," Mack said of Joseph. "He’s a heck of a player too man. Getting out there. He’s still learning some things but he’s a quick learner. You can tell he has the mindset of a safety and he comes in and flies around and does what he does. Unfortunately we haven’t got to see him really lay anybody out, you know what I’m sayin’? Can’t really do that against your teammates, so I’m looking forward to seeing him on the field in game action."

There’s still a lot of camp left before the Raiders will get to see Joseph face another team. The hope is that in the meantime, he can work his way into being uninhibited. And when that happens, there will be a lot more to discuss about his play on the field.
