Objective: To understand the franchise business model, including its structure, benefits, and challenges, and to evaluate the viability and implications of becoming a franchisee in the context of well-known franchises like McDonald's and Chick-fil-A.
Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to define what a franchise is and describe the roles and responsibilities of both the franchisor and franchisee, including the financial and operational aspects of the franchise relationship.
- Students will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing a franchise, considering factors such as initial investment, ongoing royalties, operational control, and dependence on the franchisor.
- Students will develop critical thinking skills to assess the potential for success as a franchisee, using case studies of McDonald's and Chick-fil-A to understand different franchise models and their economic implications.
