ATTACK OF THE CLONE

Star Wars fan attacked with arm ripped off life-size model of Jar Jar Binks

A STAR Wars fan was battered with an arm ripped off his life-size model of Jar Jar Binks.

Drunken Neil Govier, 36, wielded the limb of the 7ft rubber figure to beat Marcus Reid, his step-daughter’s boyfriend, a court heard.

The pair had been on a family pub crawl and ended up at Mr Reid’s flat when a row began.

Prosecutor Richard Oakley told the court: “Mr Reid put Mr Govier in a headlock. As they wrestled close to the Star Wars character Mr Govier grabbed its head and ripped it off.

“He then pulled off its left arm and swung it as a weapon.”

Mr Reid, 29, suffered suspected broken ribs in October last year in Charmouth, Dorset.

Govier said he was “so drunk he could not remember the incident”.

Mr Reid bought the figure for £285. He said: “I’ve got it fixed but it has cost hundreds.”

Labourer Govier, of Frome, Somerset, admitted assault and criminal damage before Weymouth JPs.

He was fined £585 and must pay £510 compensation.

Binks, famed for his “meesa going home” catchphrase, was voted Star Wars’ most annoying character.
