Baker Creek known as Rare Seeds (allegedly) tried selling genetically modified (GMO) purple tomato seeds on the front of their seed catalogue and then (allegedly) misled customers. Norfolk health produce is offering a genetically modified purple tomato seed this spring. This is the first ever gmo seed available to home gardeners. Baker creek, which prides itself on only offering non-gmo heirloom seeds, claims that they sourced their purple tomato seed from a breeder in Europe. Baker creek also claims that they did “every genetic test available to know it was non-gmo.” After pressure from Norfolk and customers, Baker Creek said they were not going to offer the purple tomato seed for sale anymore. Baker creek claimed the subsequent genetic testing done in conjunction with Norfolk didn’t conclusively say the seeds were genetically engineered. Norfolk healthy produce says the tests DID show the seeds were gmo, and they Norfolk is the only source of these seeds. #seeds #gmo #heirloom #heirloomseeds #bakercreek #health #gardening #garden #gardener #plant #planting #farm #geneticmodification #organic #homestead
