A lifelong resident of North Augusta Township, has passed away peacefully on August 16th, 2023 at Brockville General Hospital. Hilda is survived by her husband, Jerry Bertrand; her children, Joanne and Rick Bertrand; her grandchildren, Mitch Thiboutot, Jen Thiboutot, Lindsay Bertrand, and Matthew Barkley; and by her brother, Ed Tatarciuc. Hilda joins her late and youngest daughter, Donna Bertrand, in a place of comfort with the Lord. Hilda was born on March 25th, 1946 in Wolfsberg, Austria to mother Katherine Lushnik (Tatarciuc).

Hilda moved to Canada when she was approximately 5 years old with her mom, brother, and stepfather. Hilda would eventually meet and marry her husband, Jerry Bertrand, before having three children. She held various jobs throughout her life including working for the Ministry in Kemptville, and working at B&H Grocery store, also in Kemptville. However, her most impactful job would be raising her three kids, and grandchildren. Hilda would become a mother again in her late 50s to her grandson, Matthew. Hilda’s children and grandchildren were the most important thing in her life, and she loved them dearly. Hilda was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. She mostly enjoyed being around her family members.

Hilda is well known in her community for her large garden that she planted every year - she would make fresh pickles, salsa, pies, and cabbage rolls for everyone to enjoy. Hilda lived to help and serve others, she would often make well over 200 jars of pickles and salsa every year, sharing with family and friends alike. Hilda served her family right until the day she passed away, and she will be missed tremendously.
