The Prime Minister was given just a few minutes to set out her Brexit plans to EU leaders last night and received frosty reception, including from President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

Meeting with the 27 other EU leaders in Brussels, Mrs May was given just moments to update the summit on Brexit over coffee at 1am. She told the group Britain expects to be part of EU decision-making until Brexit.

Her brief speech was met with silence and when asked how the discussion had gone, Mr Juncker replied: 'Pfff'.

The European Commission President said: "We had no special event with Theresa May yesterday.

"She was explaining what her intentions are. I'll have lunch with her and then we will see what happens."

When the British journalist asked what Mr Juncker planned to say to Mrs May over lunch, the Luxembourgish politician responded sarcastically: “Are you the British Prime Minister?”
