WILLIAM GEE, OF YORK, N. Y.
LcttrslPatent No.' 106,686, dated August 23,1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR COOLING BEER,
The Schedule referred to in these Lette-rs Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known-that I, WILLIAM GEF., of the city, county, and State otN ew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Coolingr Beer and other Liquids, ofwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 representsan outside elevation of an ap-v paratus constructed in accordance .with my improvement, and- Figure 2, a sectional elevation thereof, taken as indicated by thelinem x, in Fig-ure 3, which is a plan of the same. i
Similar letters ol' referenceV indicate corresponding '1 arts.
series of' spiral pipes, arranged with their coils one within another, within a spiral trough, down through which latter the heer or liquid to be cooled is allowed to run, while the cooling water passes, in au opposite direction, np or through the pipes, that combine strength with a large urea ot' cooling surface, :1nd,bengindependent of the bottomof -the beer-trough, provide for the more perfect cleaning of' the latter.. Referring to the accompanying drawing- A' represents a spirally-constrncted 'ti-ough, preferably made plain and single, as regards its sides and bottom, butv containing within it a series of spiral pipes or tubes, B B, arranged with their coils one within another, said pipes terminating, at their upper ends, in a nozzle, O, which is common to the severa-l pipes, and connecting at their vlower ends with a binnen, I), that serves as au inlet, while the upper nozzle @answers as un outletfor thecooling water,
My invention consists in a cooler made up of awhich is made to pass up through the pipes B B o tthe cooler.
-The beer. or liquid to he cooled, entering by a noz#- zle or inlet, E, passes in a downward direction through the spiral trough A, and is discharged by a deliveryf nozzle'or outlet, F, the How ofthe two liquids through the apparatus being continuous, and an air-vent' or passage being provided up the center of the appuratus, as in other coolers.
The construction, as herein described, oi the appa#- ratus is nutuly cheap, the spiral trough requiring no false bottom or double structure liable lto warp, and
the spiral passages for Aiiow ot' the water consisting ofr simpleppipes spil-ally arranged, with their coils one within another, but such construction also cornl'iine's strength with efficiency, the pipes B B prese-ntingan enlarged cooling-surtce for theV beer, which, in its passage downl through the spiral trough, surrounds the pipes. f p
Increased taeilityiikewisc is afforded for cleaning the trough or apparatus generally, by reason of t-he separate construction and exposed arrangement of the beer and water-ducts or passages, together with great convenience as regards-repair, either of the pipes, or trough iti which the pipes lie.
lha-t is here claimed, and desired to be secured-by` Letters Patent, is-
'lhecoxnbination of the spirally-arralxged pipes ll B, in independent series, within the spirally-constructed trough A, togetheiiuvith their several inlets and outlets, substantially as specified. .i WILLIAM GEE.
