Description

UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE OTTO ZWIETUSOH, OF MILWAUKEE, WISUON SIN VENT FOR BEER-BARRELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,292, dated June 1, 1880. Application filed April 19, 1880. (No model.)
Be it known that I, OTTO ZWIETUSOH, of Milwaukee, in the County of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvenents in Vents forBeer-Barrels, &0.; and I do hereby declare tha-t the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to Vents for beer-barrels; and it consists in the device hereinafter described.
The drawing is a vertical section through the center of my device.
The bottle or bulb A may be of ordinary Construction, screw-threaded at its top to receive a rim, B, having` an annular flange, the purpose of which is to clamp the cover O in place. A Washer is gencrally interposed between the bottle and cover, which latter is provided with an outlet-tube, D upon which l place the fiexible pipe Gr, that leads into the beer-keg,and an outlettnbe E, which extends down into bnlb or bottle A, partly filled with water, and is provided with a flexible valve, E',
which, while it will permit air to pass through from Without will be collapsed by greatcr pressure from within. So, therefore, when beer is being draw from the keg, the air rushes in fI'Olll the outside to take its place; butas soon as the outflow from the keg ceases the valve E closes and prevents the exit of any of the gases which give life to the beer.
I find that I can place both the inlet and outlet valves in the cover with great advantage, since I can apply my invention to bulbs or bottles that are now on the market.
I claim- In combination with a bull or bottle, a cover carrying the ontlet tube D and inlet tube E, upon the lower end of which is a Valve, and a flanged rim for securing the cover on the bull) or bottle, as set forth.
In testimony tlatlclaim the foregoinglhave he'ennto set my hand.
