To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM R. DALES, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Beer Drawing and Saving Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

In drawing beer there is always a great deal of froth and this flows over the glass and is usually wasted.

The object of my invention is to produce an apparatus which enables beer to be readily drawn to fill a glass or other receptacle, and which has also an arrangement by which the froth may be sucked from the glass and delivered into a receptacle from which, after it settles, it may be withdrawn in the shape of merchantable beer. The apparatus thus provides for selling beer on draft in the usual way, while cans and such articles may be filled from the receptacle into which the froth has been delivere To these ends my invention consists of certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar'figures of-reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a cross section of a bar fitted with my improved apparatus and shows also the saving tank in section. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the two-way cock or faucet used in connection with the apparatus. Fig. 3' is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.

The bar 10 may be of any usual kind, and in fact the apparatus may be used entirely independent of the bar. The apparatus may be used to good advantage with the bar, however, and the beer pipe 11 in such a case comes up behind the bar in the usual manner so as .to supply the beer, audit connects with a nipple 12 of the faucet 13, which faucet has a channel 11 aligning with the beer pipe 11.

The faucet is provided with a two-way cook,

or plug 14 having a suitable handle 15 and provided with a transverse bore 16 to align with the channel 11; also with the discharge pipe 17 from which the beer is delivered to a glass. The plug 14 is also provided with a second bore 18, at an angle to the first, and

' adapted to-align with the main bore 19 of the faucet and with the bore 20 of a second nipple 12".which is adapted to connect with the pipe 21 having a cut off cock 22 therein, and arranged to deliver into the saving tank 23, which is supported on ashelf 10 behind the bar but may be arranged in any convenient manner. The tank 23 is provided with a fancet 23 at the bottom, from which the beer may be withdrawn, or water when the tank I is being washed, and in the tank is a partial vacuum to enable the froth to be sucked from the top of a beer glass, as 'described presently'. The tank has also an outlet pipe 23 leading to a faucet 23 at one side of the faucet 13. The faucet 13 has at its nozzle,

an inverted funnel or hood 24, adapted to cover the top of a glass so as to guide the foam into the bore 19. It will thus be seen that when. the glass is placed in position, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the plug 14 may be turned so as to bring the bore 16 into alignment with the pipe 17, thus turning on the beer and filling the glass and at the same time the bore 18 is opened, so that the suction from the tank 23 draws off the foam, which passes through the bore 19, the bore 18 and the pipe 21 to the tank. The tank 23 is provided with a suitable cover 25 which may be fastened in any way to make it air tight, but as illustrated it' is provided with a gasket 26 and is held'on by clamps 27. It will be understood, however, that the tank itself forms no part of the invention and it may be of any approved kind. v

The air is exhausted from the tank 23 by means of a pipe 28, and this may be connected with an air pump if desired, but as illustrated it connects with an ordinary aspirator which is supplied with water by a pipe 30, controlled bya valve 31 and discharginginto a pipe 32. It will be seen that the flow of water through the aspirator will suck the air from the tank so as to form a vacuum therein. The water supply pipe 30 also connects with the tank by 'a pipe 33 which is controlled by a Valve 34, and this provides a convenient means of washing out the tank when necessary.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A beer-drawing and saving apparatus,

composed of a vacuum tank,abeer-discharge 3. In abeer -drawing and saving apparatus, the combination with a vacuum tank and froth-inlet pipe connected therewith, a beerdischarge pipe whose nozzle is arranged with that of said inlet pipe, a hood applied to such nozzles, and means for controlling inlet and discharge, as shown and described.

4. The combination, with the vacuum tank, the beer supply pipe and the two-way faucet connected with the tank and pipe, of the water pipe, the aspirator connected with the water pipe and tank, and a second pipe leading from the supply pipe into the tank, substantially as described.
