I will be returning this because it doesn't smash the tortilla as much as I would like. It makes them perfectly round but leaves them too thick for my taste. It is an overall sturdy machine and I like the rubber feet on the bottom so it doesn't slip, but the handle seems a bit wobbly. If you like thicker tortillas, it is a great machine. I just enlarged the picture and notice that the rubber stoppers for the handle were missing...that explains why the handle was wobbly. However that would not make a skinnier tortilla.

The box was a bit beat up, as the press is cast iron. Please note, the instructions note this is designed in the US, but made in China. It is coated with what I'm presuming to be a porcelain finish. It's not flat smooth, but is very easy to clean.
The manufacturer also provides 100 pieces of parchment paper for your use. With some dough mixes, you may want to oil the parchment paper so it doesn't stick to it. It also come with an extra set of screws and nuts - store those in case you lose the originals. All in all, it will make nice tortillas up to 8" in diameter.

Made decent flat bread after figuring the correct low & long setting on my GAS burner. Sticky out paper inserts are
square. Naturally, corners will burn off at once. Don't call the fire lads just yet. Flames go out sooner than you can panic. You now have round paper inserts.. Folks making tacos or flat bread over an open fire will hardly notice this minor drama. The now fully circular papers are reusable, I never found out how many times. Unless you have deeply callused fingers like a Mexican women on the Travel Channel, a glove on one hand are a must. This cast iron non stick
device is best suited for N. Americans) as a fun way to make fast bread w/o electric power.

Okay so this thing is pretty heavy. I learned that it doesn’t completely flatten out the tortillas. No matter how many times you smash it down they’re still kinda thick. If you’re okay with that, then it’s fine. Personally I like my tortillas to be on the thinner side so I found myself still having to roll them out after I smashed them so I was having to do an extra step. If you’re not the best at rolling this could help you out since it already flattens the tortilla for you and you can roll out the rest. Like I said it’s not the best but it’s also not the worst. If you’re always making tortillas I don’t think this would be a good investment especially for the price.

This 10” press is big and heavy and does a great job on corn tortillas with very minimal effort. I wasn’t as impressed with flour tortillas though, they just don’t get thin enough, they are more like pita bread and it works great for that. I did get the 10” so I could make thin flour tortillas, so I was a little disappointed. You can get them round with this press but you will still have to hand roll them to get the gossamer wing thin tortillas like at the taqueria. For corn tortillas, I found that I can get more uniform rounds and make them much faster using a small ice cream disher style scoop. They come out perfectly round and the flat side keeps them in place better, way more efficient then making a million little uneven balls. Your dough must be soft and pliable, many recipes I tried were way to dry and crumbly and required a lot more water, so be sure the dough is moist. This works with very minimal effort, you don’t have to put all your weight on the handle, just a gentle but firm press that’s it. This has a painted enamel like finish on cast iron so it won’t rust. It will chip away where the handle presses the outside of the plate, no big deal, just a little missing paint in a tiny spot. Also, expect quite a bit of play side to side where the handle bolts through but it doesn’t seem to matter and they all seem to do that. I do like this press, I’m still glad I got the 10” even though it doesn’t make thin flour tortillas because we do make a lot of flat bread and pitas and it’s great for that. This one is made in China, not Mexico.
