Eager to celebrate the launch of the all-electric e-Transit, Ford has created just the fourth SuperVan in its history and it is easily the fastest ever.

The new Pro Electric SuperVan was developed with the help of STARD Motorsport and made its premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with Romain Dumais behind the wheel. While it didn’t set any records, it did turn a lot of heads and just before the event kicked off, Top Gear took an up-close look at the SuperVan.

Powering the new SuperVan are four electric motors that combine to deliver 1,973 hp. Ford says it can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 2 seconds and much like the Mustang Mach-E 1400 that came before it, the deployment of the power can be configured in a multitude of different ways. As such, it can turn from a monstrous drag racer into a drift car.

An interesting thing about this new SuperVan is that it is actually based around the production-ready E-Transit Custom, rather than being custom built from the ground up. Admittedly, the only thing it shares with the normal E-Transit is the floorpan but it is cool to see how far Ford was willing to push the vehicle.

Adorning the exterior of the van are unique carbon fiber panels to help make it as light as possible. The body has also been designed to aid in aerodynamics. This is no more obvious than from the rear where the bodywork falls away and makes way for two massive aerodynamic tunnels inside each rear pillar. Ford hasn’t released any downforce details about the SuperVan but we suspect it can take corners at fairly impressive speeds considering its size.
